More affordable housing is on the way for Wallingford, thanks to an important £4,000,000 agreement signed on Friday between local housing association, Vale Housing and the developers of the Paul’s Malt site, Linden Homes. Abingdon based Vale Housing has agreed to buy and manage a quarter of the 142 new properties on the site. Twenty seven will be affordable homes to rent and a further eight will be available to part-buy through a shared ownership scheme. The first 19 properties will be ready by this October and the remaining eight in autumn 2002.
The Association’s new Head of Development, John Mensah was delighted. This is our single largest development to date and our first within South Oxfordshire. The shared ownership units will be the Association's first and represents a significant new area of activity. The agreement signed on Friday is the successful culmination of long negotiations.
South Oxfordshire District Council and the Housing Corporation have granted approximately £1.8 million to help fund the affordable housing. Anyone interested in the rented accommodation should contact South Oxfordshire District Council’s Housing Services on (01491) 823350, and ask for an application form to join their Housing Register. The District Council will then nominate people to the Vale Housing Association from the Register.
