Residents of four roads in Wallingford will be joining Town and District Councillors and staff and board members of The Vale Housing Association to celebrate the opening of 40 new homes in the Sovereign Place development on the former Pauls Malt site.
The roads, Barley Close, Tudor Close, Stuart Place and The Sidings, were built as part of the larger development by Linden Homes as a result of a Section 106 agreement1 with South Oxfordshire District Council and have been completed in three phases. Tenants moved into 10 flats just before Christmas in 2001, 11 shared ownership apartments were completed in July 2002 and the remaining 19 homes, of which a further two houses are also shared ownership, have been completed this year. The residents of the new properties all have a connection with South Oxfordshire.
Head of Design, John Martin says We are very pleased to be able to provide much needed affordable housing for the people of Wallingford. Not only has this been our largest and most integrated scheme to date but it is also the first time we have been able to offer properties on a shared ownership basis. We would like to thank both South Oxfordshire District Council and the Housing Corporation for part-funding the development.
Also attending the event, to be held in The Sidings, will be representatives from Linden Homes, Ibis, the employers agent, and South Oxfordshire District Council.
The event will be held at 1.30pm on Thursday 6th March in The Sidings (see map for directions). Journalists are welcome to attend the celebrations where there will be photo opportunities and the chance to speak to those involved. However please note that there is no parking in the road itself.
1A Section 106 agreement refers to Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 which provides local planning authorities with the power to restrict or regulate the use of land. This has been used by Local Authorities to ensure that a certain proportion of land in their area is used for building housing to be rented at affordable rates.
