Six brand new family homes will be opened in a festive celebration in Wootton on Thursday this week. The Vale Housing Association are celebrating the completion of the affordable homes, which form part of the new Wimpey development in the village.
The Chair of the Vale Housing Association’s Board, Nicholas Morris will join staff and the new tenants to formally open the site on Thursday at 1.30pm. Guests will include representatives from the Housing Corporation, who contributed funding towards the scheme, local councillor Mrs Tessa Ward and the Chairman of the Vale of White Horse District Council Mr Terry Fraser. Christmas will come early for the children living at the development who will be given Christmas presents to open to welcome them to their new homes.
Six families are moving into the three-bedroom houses, some from the Vale of White Horse District Council’s housing waiting list and some transferring from other Vale Housing Association properties. Richard and Corinne Alder, who are moving into their new home with their two daughters, commented, “It’s made all the difference to us. The house is lovely and we’re so happy with it!”
The houses are the first stage of a £3,709,000 project by The Vale Housing Association to build 40 new homes as part of the Wimpey Development. The Housing Corporation, who work with housing associations throughout the country, is contributing £1,106,000 towards the scheme. More affordable homes, including some for shared ownership, will be completed during 2006. David Taylor, Project Manager at The Vale Housing Association, commented, “This is the beginning of one of the largest developments that The Vale Housing Association has ever built. We’re delighted to be helping to provide these homes, which we hope will make a real difference to Wootton.”
The development is on a brown-field site, making use of land previously used for storage and industrial units.
Journalists are welcome to attend the event which starts at 1.00pm for 1.30pm. There will be photo opportunities
