Going the extra mile and reaching out into the community were two of the reasons why the Vale Housing Association has been awarded the Charter Mark for excellence in public service for the second time running.
Following an inspection of the association last year the Association was judged to be over and above the standard expected for the Charter Mark award. The report produced on the Association commented that staff demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to the service
. It also praised the Association’s community activity, which means its about more than just ‘bricks and mortar’. In particular the assessor singled out its decision to allow ambulances to be based at two of its sheltered schemes so that they can reach emergencies more quickly.
The Vale Housing Association owns over 5,000 properties, mainly in the Vale of White Horse District Council area but also in Didcot and Wallingford. The organisation was first given the award in 2001. Since then the Association has further developed its services and been able to meet the revised set of criteria, which included an increased focus on community activities. It has now been awarded the Charter Mark just in time for its 10th anniversary which takes place in February.
The Association has already received congratulations from many sources on its achievement. Robert Jackson, MP for Wantage, commented I am delighted at this news and having been involved with local housing issues for over 20 years I know how well deserved this is
. Evan Harris, MP for Abingdon, also wrote to congratulate the Association on its success.
One of the Vale Housing Association’s tenant representatives, and Vice Chair of the Board, Ray Morse, commented From a tenant’s point of view it’s good to see all the staff maintain high standards.
