Three Abingdon tenants face eviction if they break their promises not to cause further nuisance to their neighbours over the next year.
In three separate cases over two days (13 and 16 September), Oxford County Court judges ordered that eviction be suspended as long as no further justified complaints of anti-social behaviour occur. David Thomas, of Mathews Way, Wootton, Steven Cooke, of Quarry Road, Bayworth and Rachel Anderson, of Saxton Road, Abingdon all agreed to change their behaviour towards their neighbours. A fourth case is being heard this week.
The complaints received from neighbours included reports of noise, damage and assault. The tenants involved were given repeated warnings from Association staff to alter their behaviour, while the help of an independent mediation company was offered in two of the cases. Only when these avenues had been exhausted did the Association decide the cases should be taken to court in order to protect the neighbours.
Bill Henderson, Director of Housing Services at The Vale Housing Association, said These tenants have a final chance. However if they cause trouble again they will face eviction. I hope that by threatening this action, a powerful message is sent out. Our tenants will not tolerate neighbours who make their lives a misery through repeated disruption. We would like to thank those tenants who supported us in order to get this result.
