It’s a new year, new look for Saxton Road in South Abingdon. The road has had a makeover through the Home Zone project, completed at the beginning of the year, which has transformed the road into a pedestrian-friendly area. Now The Vale Housing Association is doing its bit by holding a skip day to help residents dispose of unwanted rubbish, following requests from residents to repeat the success of a similar project undertaken five years ago.
The event will take place from 10.00 till 3.00 on Saturday 5th February. Skips will be placed along the road at intervals in which residents can dump most unwanted items free of charge. At the end of the day the skips will be removed by Chilton Waste and a proportion recycled. The aim of the day is to help people clear out their homes and gardens and rubbish left in the road.
Young people involved with the Youth Offending Team, based in Oxford, will be on hand during the day to help load heavy items into the skips. They will be supervised by members of the Youth Offending Team.
The Association is working in partnership with the Vale Community Safety Partnership who are jointly funding the event. David Rundle, Housing Manager at The Vale Housing Association, the co-ordinator of the event, commented, We have been involved throughout the HomeZone project and want to make a contribution to all the improvements made to the road. We hope that the skips will provide the chance for people to have a clear out and get rid of unwanted rubbish.
