Vale Housing Association Garden Competition 2006

The annual Garden Competition again this summer provided an opportunity for Vale tenants to show off their gardens. It was a privilege to see the results of their hours of hard work, this year complicated by the lack of rain and hosepipe ban. The colour and diversity of the gardens was really impressive and one garden was themed in support of England during the world cup!

25 people entered the competition, divided into four categories: Small, medium, large and container garden. This year Dave Chitson, Tenant representative and very keen gardener, judged the competition. He commented "I was impressed by the amount of time, effort and love that has gone into the gardens, and the pride people take in them. It really makes a difference to the areas you live in".

Mr and Mrs Smith from Grove won first prize in the Large garden category, wowing the judge with the range of styles used and the garden's practical application. Mr Bunch from Letcombe Regis had created a beautiful communal area for him and his neighbours to enjoy and adorned the houses with lavish hanging baskets. He won first prize in the Medium category. Other first prize winners were Mrs O'Sullivan, who impressed with her hanging baskets and use of space in the Container category, and Mrs Floyd of Wantage in the Small garden category, whose garden seemed like an exotic holiday destination.

Prizes will be presented at the Annual General Meeting on the 19th September.
