Procedure for ensuring that the Association's waste is safely stored before disposal (OP17C:V2:24/02/05)

Responsibility

  1. Works Manager.

Action

  1. The Works Manager will ensure that all waste awaiting disposal, is placed within skips with sealed bottoms, on sealed ground. In special circumstances inert waste will be stored separately if it is being recycled.

  2. He will ensure that no toxic, noxious, polluting or solid waste, including paper and litter, enters any controlled waters or surface water drains (These are an offence under the Water Resources Act 1991).

  3. The Works Manager will ensure that any special waste will be segregated and stored separately to await disposal (see OP17B).

  4. The Works Manager will carry out a daily visual inspection of the waste storage area to ensure that these procedure are being complied with.

  5. He will ensure that the site is properly locked and secure at night.

Recording

  1. The Works Manager (or a nominated person in his absence) will keep a record of the date and nature of any non-conformances, and the action taken to rectify them.

  2. Activity within the waste storage area is recorded on the yard's close circuit TV surveillance camera.
